Home > Innovation in IT > Barack Obama's Use of Social Networking

On November 5th, 2008, several political start-ups had built some of the most innovative social applications around, built systems that accepted nearly half a billion dollars in donations -- and elected our first Black President, Barack Obama. The victory of Barack Obama featured the powerful use of new media and the Internet in ways never seen before in a US presidential election.

ThoughtWorks was engaged during the campaign and played a major role in bringing the techniques and technology together. One such example is the development of the Obama Facebook application.  On Friday I attended a “Friends and Family” presentation by Zack Exley and Josh Hendler of ThoughtWorks who developed the Facebook apps that supported the Barack’s campaign. Their efforts provided insight into the exciting potential and hard realities of social networking.

ThoughtWorks is presenting the same topic at HCSC for Black History Month. Is your company looking for social engineering experts? The ability to leverage these approaches in your business exists today and the ThoughtWorks presentation will help you begin to understand how. Want to hear more?
