In order to attract and retain the best African American IT Talent, companies must continually assess and improve their organizational environments.  For over 30 years since its inception in 1975, BDPA has provided Corporate America with a steady supply of talented African Americans in IT.  By polling its members at all levels in their careers, BDPA has established benchmarking metrics that measure how well a company has fostered an open environment of diversity and inclusion, especially as it pertains to African Americans in IT.

In this economy where many African Americans in technology are concerned about opportunities for both employment and advancement, it is important to recognize exceptional companies that provide African Americans with challenging and fulfilling career opportunities in Information Technology. In 2003, BDPA partnered with WorkplaceDiversity.com and introduced the Best Companies for Blacks in Technology Awards Program to assess selected organizations with respect to the organizational climate for African-Americans. Each year, BDPA surveys Fortune 1000 companies to make an assessment of their internal workplace and career development climate using the following rating categories:

Rating Categories

Demographics

Diversity Programs (Training, Affinity Groups)

Tenure, Promotions and Terminations

Diversity Recruiting

Leadership Development and Advancement Programs

Supplier Diversity Programs

Community Outreach

The Best Companies for Blacks in Technology Awards are announced each year by June 30th and recognize the outstanding achievements of companies who have demonstrated a commitment to people and an understanding that Diversity has a bottom line business case value. The Best Companies for Blacks in Technology Awards are presented at the National BDPA Technology Conference held in August. The prestigious Epsilon Award for the Best Company for Blacks in Technology is presented annually to the top company in the nation that promotes a workplace and environment that supports the advancement of African-Americans in the information technology industry.
