Dr. Lenny Superville, CIO for North Carolina's Office of the State Auditor


Dr. Lenny Superville, Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CIO) for North Carolina's (NC) Office of the State Auditor (OSA) and Senior Technology Advisor to the NC State Auditor, has more than 30 years of experience in information systems in the private and public and academic sectors.
He has managed information technology, led the development of IT strategic plans and created roadmaps for IT programs and policies.

Within the OSA, he leads the Office of the CIO in support of the IT requirements and is further responsible for implementation of IT-related initiatives to comply with the State Auditor's Mission for meeting legislative mandates.

Some of his most recent accomplishments:
· Project Sponsor for On-Demand Access to General ledger detail, human resource and payroll data, Consolidation of infrastructure, technical services and applications;
· Project Manager for Time Reporting System, Webpage, Statewide Non-Profit Grants Compliance System, Wireless Enterprise and Universal Wiring Architectures.

In September 1993, he was nominated for State of North Carolina Governor's Award for Excellence - for outstanding contributions to the people and the State of North Carolina in “Technology Innovation”.

Prior to his CIO appointment in 1993, he held several computing, technology and information related positions:
· 3 years as Deputy Director of Information Systems Management at the Department of Public Instruction (Raleigh, NC);
· 2 years as a Member of the Scientific Staff at Bell Northern Research (Research Triangle Park, NC);
· 6 years as manager of Network Architecture at GE/RCA (Princeton, NJ);
· 2 years as a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T (Bedminster, NJ);
· 10 years a Assistant Professor of Mathematics/Computer Science at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY).
During his CIO involvement in computing and information technology, Dr. Superville spent 18 years of service with the Government of NC and at the same time served:
· 2 years as Chair of the NC CIO Council;
· 2 years as a member of NC Information Resource Management Commission;
· Delegate /Presenter/Chair for Several National Government/Private Industry Forums & CIO Summits; and,
· Gave Keynote Presentations on "The Convergence of Layered Security within Networks; CIO's Perspective on Secure Telecommuting; Disaster Recovery scenarios, fighting chemical terrorism; secure wireless deployment and Global View of Information Security - Evolving Trends & Future Strategies.

In the January 2004 edition of CDW-G's State Tech Magazine, Dr. Superville was featured in the Cover Story article - "e-Government initiatives drive increasing network bandwidth requirements".

In June 2004, he spoke on Enterprise Data Integration: Developing a Successful Framework for Secure Information Sharing.

In the July 2004 edition of CDW-G's State Tech Magazine, he was featured in TECH RESPONSE - "Seeing the Big Picture with Data Consolidation".

He's currently involved with several Technology Boards, Committees, and Organizations:
· Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP);
· NC Chapter of Black Data Processing Association (BDPA);
· North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA);
· NC Digital Summit – Government Technology;
· NC CIO Council; CIO Forum and Executive IT Summit (NC Chapter);

· Metropolitan Who's Who.

Dr. Superville earned his Doctorate in Applied Mathematics/Operations Research from the Graduate Center of City University of New York (CUNY) in 1978.
