Home Careers in IT > Career Coaching > P.I.E. Performance, Image, and Exposure

I first heard about PIE from Curvie Burton, one of my mentors from the IT Senior Management Forum (www.itsmfonline.org). Curvie referred me to the book “Empowering Yourself” by Harvey Coleman.

There are three elements important to players who want to fine tune their skills and move up in their profession. They must:

Perform exceptionally well.
Cultivate proper Image.
Manage their Exposure so the right people will know them.

Here are the three P.I.E. elements weighted by importance:

Performance = 10%
Image = 30%
Exposure = 60%

As a coach and mentor I’ve helped thousands advance their careers in IT and to this day I always talk about PIE. I tell people to develop a critical skills focus so they can complete in the global marketplace. Then I let them know that real success comes when they pay even more attention to their image and gain exposure too.

I delivered this message to over 100 college students at a recent UNCF conference in Montgomery Alabama. The students were so impressed with the importance of PIE that I decided create this website page and video to share the concept.

A nice presentation on P.I.E. can be found at the link below:
