Blacks Gone Geek was founded in 2007 to promote blogging as a way to encourage students to get an education and pursue careers in IT.
We've learned a lot since then. It's definitely not as easy as it sounds. Blogs open communication but so many folks are afraid of the reprecussions of speaking their minds in cyberspace that they don't engage in discussion groups online. Go figure!
Open and honest communication is key to solving problems, and dialoguing using web 2.0 social networking (blogs, wikis, discussion groups, podcasts) is the best way to make that happen. So we continue to use these tools to "beat the drums" for positive change and to stay connected with my fellow geeks who share our passion for promoting African Americans in IT.
Our mission is to create and proliferate a social networking culture in support of promoting African Americans in the field of Information Technology. The web pages at the links below serve to explain the benefits of "going geek" from the various perspectives of our community members.
